How It Works
A portable conductivity meter measures the ability of a solution to conduct electrical current. This conductivity is influenced by the concentration of ions present in the liquid. The instrument operates based on Ohm’s Law, measuring the reciprocal of electrical resistance between two electrodes.
There are two primary methods of measurement:
-
Conductive sensor: Applies alternating electrical current to electrodes immersed in the solution and measures the resulting voltage.
-
Inductive sensor: Measures conductivity without direct contact between the sensing element and the liquid—ideal for harsh or contaminated samples.
This meter can measure conductivity across a broad range—from 0 to 2,000,000 µS, depending on the model capacity—making it suitable for many water quality applications.
